Why do I have to wait 6 weeks for my first fill?

Per a post op report from Dr. Rumbaught:
After surgery patient is to stay on a full liquid diet for 2 weeks then progress to a soft diet  as tolerated for 2 weeks in order for the band to be covered with adhesions and the stomach stitches to heal. Closing the band will cause dilation of the proximal reservoir and stretching of the stitches so this should not be done before 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, the band can be closed by injecting normal saline into the port as needed to reach a good fill level.

So is it bad that I started eating solid food after 1 week of being banded? the quantity has been small but more than 2 oz. with no discomfort or nausea. I keep expecting to feel sick but haven’t. Is something wrong?

Always follow your surgeons instructions. They are all different. Eating full protein like chicken or steak makes your stomach work too hard to process it. Soft things and liquids let your stomach rest. Try to follow the rules set down by your surgeon.
