With 4th of July right around the corner, I just want to wish you all a great summer and give you some hints for eating with the band. Prior to going to a party with lots of food, have yourself a little snack before you leave the house so you won’t be starved when you get there. Remember protein and produce. Stay away from those carbs as much as possible. You may find some of your summer favorites are hard to eat. Examples: Watermelon and cantelope. Very good, but may be too much fiber for your band. Chew all the juice out and remove the fiber. BBQ chicken may be too dry for you. Hot dogs are almost a no-no for bandsters. Anything with a casing on it or a skin, like cherries or grapes, may be hard to eat. Drink a big glass of water before eating. Get plenty of fluids (stay away for the beer and other summer drinks, lots of empty calories).
Have a great summer. Remember to exercise!
Summer Celebrations
June 30th, 2010Why do I have to wait 6 weeks for my first fill?
November 19th, 2009Per a post op report from Dr. Rumbaught:
After surgery patient is to stay on a full liquid diet for 2 weeks then progress to a soft diet as tolerated for 2 weeks in order for the band to be covered with adhesions and the stomach stitches to heal. Closing the band will cause dilation of the proximal reservoir and stretching of the stitches so this should not be done before 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, the band can be closed by injecting normal saline into the port as needed to reach a good fill level.
Flu shots
October 7th, 2009Don’t forget your flu shots! Eat healthy, exercise and try to stay away from those nasty flu bugs. If you get sick, STAY HOME, drink lots of fluid, get plenty of rest and GET WELL SOON!
Fall is here
October 7th, 2009With the cold weather, thoughts of soup come to mind. Bandsters aren’t suppose to eat soups, right? Sure you can. Just make them big and chunky with lots of protein and veggies. Stay away from the creamed soups. Too many calories.
Want something hot to drink? Try some sugar free hot cocoa or hot apple cider. Just remember to count the calories into your day.

September 17th, 2009Yesterday was our first trip to Bellingham for fills. What a great place. Hope those of you from Canada and the North End come visit us.
Simplify Your Bandster Diet
September 10th, 2009Here is how to eat a bandster diet:
Draw a line down the middle of a sheet of notebook paper.
On one side (Column A)write a list of all the proteins you like, beef, fish, chicken, pork, beans, cottage cheese, shell fish, etc. 3-4 oz
On the other side:Column B: write down all the vegtable and fruit you like.
Pick one from Column A and 2 from Column B. You have a bandster meal. How simple is that!
Eat what is on your plate. Wait 20 minutes. If you are still a bit hungry, have some more veggies.
